Advanced decoding includes teaching students how to read and spell multisyllabic words. The study of syllables and morphemes supports both fluency and comprehension for adolescent readers.
In this session, participants will learn how to select multisyllabic words to explicitly teach from content area text and how to teach advanced decoding skills as a strategy for scaffolding complex, grade-level text for older readers.
This session is appropriate for teachers of reading as well as content area teachers.
